“Dads are most ordinary men…”

November 16, 2018

We see women every day who are in crisis, sometimes they come with a friend or parent but many come with the father of the baby. For moms who choose to keep their baby, they leave here with small gifts such as a receiving blanket, prenatal vitamins, and a small bag with pregnancy information, samples, and coupons. The dad? Well, until recently, he would leave knowing he was a father.

Our client services director wanted to change the way dads perceive their role and created our Dad’s Tool Box to help them transition to being a father—before the baby is born.

The Dad’s Tool Boxes are little tool boxes filled with brochures about being a father, a handwritten note congratulating him, a small flashlight, a baby hat or receiving blanket, and a little baby book that can be the first book the new dad reads to his baby. We also include information about our parenting program where dads can earn baby bucks to purchase nursery and baby needs at our Baby Boutique just like moms can.

In the last 2 weeks alone, we have given away a dozen of the Dad’s Tool Boxes and we hope to continue to grow the program. For the young woman facing a crisis pregnancy, how the father responds to her pregnancy makes all the difference in the world. We want to encourage the fathers of these precious babies to be there for the mothers and their children.

On the front of the tool boxes is part of a quote from the poet Pam Brown that reads, “Dads are most ordinary men turned by love into heroes…”

We want to encourage the dads to be the heroes they need to be.
